Bikeshare culture is growing in Indianapolis, here's why
"IndyRides Free provides an annual pass to Marion County residents to use the bikeshare at no cost.
And people are seizing the opportunity!
About 4 out of every 5 bikeshare trips have been taken by passholders since its launch.
“It puts this right in their hands. They can use the bikes at no cost to them and puts more money back in their pocket," Haley said."
Urban Sharing: the “migration specialists” giving shared bikes a second life
“Rather than overhauling an entire fleet, we are the migration specialists giving these bikes a second life by upgrading a system’s software while still being compatible with the legacy hardware. We can change the back-end without changing the vehicle itself.”
Pretty interesting! I wonder if you could just jailbreak the bikes and sell them instead.

Denver on-pace for record use of public e-scooters, bikes in 2024
"Denver is on track this year to reach six million riders which, at this point, 5.6 million have used the scooter/bike share program, according to DOTI Executive Director Amy Ford. That, transportation officials said, eliminates an estimated two million car rides in the city.
Overall, roughly 19.5 million trips with bikes and scooters were recorded since 2021"

Dayton: Why the Amazing “E-Link” Electric Bicycles Aren’t Around Campus Anymore
"Founded to enhance urban mobility, promote sustainable transportation, and provide “last mile” transportation throughout the urban core, the program provided accessible biking options for students and Dayton residents. However, factors like increased insurance costs and overall operational expenses have led to the difficult decision to halt services. "

Baltimore: Funding Awarded for Projects to Reduce Emissions, Improve Pedestrian Safety
$10M awarded overall. $3M goes to EV chargers, but still a lot of interesting projects. Bike/ped improvements on Maryland 190, new bikeshare stations and paths in Rockville, Magruder Branch Trail, a shared use path in Gaithersburg.

Nashville: C-. Bike share is excellent, lots of ebikes to choose from. Riverfront paths are excellent - seems like most cities are doing that these days. Downtown has a few bike lanes, protected and unprotected, but is pretty awful in general due to many wide car lanes. There were "Bike Route" signs on some really fast roads near the stadium which were positively scary, but there was a lot of construction near there, maybe some changes are in the works.
Houston BCycle to shut down at end of June after 12-year ride
"Monthly ridership dipped below 10,000 after BCycle increased its prices and closed many of its stations...it's "really unfortunate" that Houston will soon be the largest city in the U.S. without a bike share network."
I'm sure Houston's new disaster of a mayor is primarily responsible though.

In DC? Free bikeshare rides for new users
"Curious about trying a bikeshare service in the District? Capital Bikeshare says now is the perfect time — it’s offering new users a code to unlock a bike for free for a limited time.
From April 16 to April 20, new users can get a free bike ride from one of the system’s stations across the Metro D.C. area with the code “TRYCABI416B.” The service offers both classic and electric bikes."
Cincinnati's Red Bike has been saved -- for now
"Multiple organizations across Greater Cincinnati have pledged funding to keep Red Bike alive, totaling around $450,000...Thanks to the additional funding, though, Red Bike officials said they hope the bikeshare program can re-open on May 13."
"The bikeshare service recently paused for the winter in January due to too much growth with not enough funding."

Cincinnati’s Red Bike bikeshare shutting down
"The bikeshare service recently paused for the winter in January not due to lack of ridership, but due to too much growth with not enough funding.
Executive Director Douglas McClintock previously told WCPO 9 that it would have taken well over $250,000 to "really make sure that we were not having to close things down."
That's a bummer! Red Bike is a great service.

New Orleans Bikeshare Program Surpasses 300,000 Rides
“Blue Bikes is a proven transportation solution that is revolutionizing the way that residents of New Orleans move around town. Seeing families, workers and visitors embrace this fun, affordable, and healthy way to explore our city is a clear message that New Orleanians are committed to building a more equitable and sustainable future, one pedal at a time.”
Pacers Bikeshare to bring Electric Bicycles to Indianapolis in 2024
"The e-bikes are funded by a federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) grant of $1.2 million through the City’s Department of Public Works."
"Pacers Bikeshare bikes are available at 50 stations via the BCycle mobile app, by walking up to a station kiosk or by purchasing an annual pass."
The bike share offers a three-day pass for $15, which is as good a deal for visitors as I've seen anywhere. There aren't enough ebikes - I think I read somewhere that they were getting more - and the ones I did find were half-charged or less. I never did manage to run one out of charge though.
