Reflections on noise-pollution data collection in DC
"A growing body of evidence links urban noise pollution with health problems. The data I collected suggest that DC residents are regularly exposed to stress-inducing levels of noise"
I'd like to see this done in Indianapolis. The city's attempted to make some pedestrian-friendly areas, like Mass Ave and 10th, but...well, maybe you can see the problem.

Washington DC: Connecticut Avenue redesign is an utter failure
A 60-foot road, four lanes for cars, two lanes for car storage. Bike lanes to be removed.
"The above falls far short of what we expect for a major corridor, and is an abrupt change from the complex, but well-socialized, plan that DDOT has promoted to the public for the past five years...combined with the removal of the bike lane, will make travel by all modes worse."
In DC? Free bikeshare rides for new users
"Curious about trying a bikeshare service in the District? Capital Bikeshare says now is the perfect time — it’s offering new users a code to unlock a bike for free for a limited time.
From April 16 to April 20, new users can get a free bike ride from one of the system’s stations across the Metro D.C. area with the code “TRYCABI416B.” The service offers both classic and electric bikes."
Washington, DC: Bike lanes rejected in favor of more parking
"Initial plans from DDOT had a protected bike lane on Connecticut Avenue as part of safety improvements but Director Sharon Kershbaum told the Council Thursday they weren’t moving forward with that plan...One thing that will happen is changing the current parking restrictions on the outer lanes during rush hour. We’re going to turn those primarily into parking lanes full time."
More from Washington: Metro enhances services and halts construction for cherry blossom travel surge
"Metro has stopped all daytime and evening construction or track work before 10 a.m., for the next five weeks, hoping people will use Metrorail and buses to see the popular Japanese trees. Additional trains will also be strategically placed throughout the system to assist with crowding, and additional buses will be on hand along key routes."
