Vision Zero is possible. Advocates say Indianapolis lacks ‘political will.’
"Nearly 18 months since the city officially committed to eliminating traffic deaths by 2035, there are few concrete details on how the city will get to Vision Zero. Advocates say it’s possible — if Mayor Joe Hogsett and city-county councilors live up to their promises."

Vision Zero is possible. Advocates say Indy lacks ‘political will.’
The abject failure of Vision Zero in America
"The equation is simple. Lane reductions, aka road diets, slow drivers, sometimes by causing greater congestion at peak hours. But drivers don’t want to slow down, and definitely don’t want to get stuck behind other drivers, blissfully unaware that they themselves are the cause of that congestion.
Not road diets. Not bike lanes.
Not even other drivers.
Even on Deadly del Mar."
Is Vision Zero achievable? Of course it is.
"Vision Zero has already been achieved in many European cities and even a few smaller American cities, including Hoboken New Jersey, which hasn't had a traffic death in seven years. Continuing to frame stories as if these facts are somehow an open question is a form of disinformation. And for the record, pedestrians in successful Vision Zero cities text, drink, and sometimes don't pay attention."

24 pedestrians killed in Delaware this year; planner suggests wearing reflective clothing
"Andaya said data shows the majority of pedestrian crashes and fatalities happen between dusk and dawn, and most people are wearing dark-colored clothing. She said it’s not enough to wear light-colored clothing; pedestrians should wear something reflective that alerts drivers earlier."
You do have to give drivers plenty of time to look up from their phones.

Vision Zero Taskforce appointees and first meeting announced
"The Vision Zero Taskforce, dedicated to improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists across the city by reducing traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries to zero."
There's just one person listed as a biker in the list, and they represent the "Recreational Cycling Community". They really need a "Commuting Cyclists" representative as well.

Charlotte isn't reaching its goal of eliminating traffic deaths. Bad drivers aren't helping.
"Despite the city of Charlotte investing $10.5 million in traffic safety projects since 2018, more people died or were injured in crashes last year."
$2M a year doesn't seem like much for a city the size of Charlotte. The article details the three E's (Education, Enforcement, Engineering) though. I'd guess they need to do more on traffic calming.

Indy is in a 'pedestrian safety crisis.' Can a Vision Zero traffic safety plan save lives?
"A Vision Zero plan has been on the table for nearly a decade. Now, several city-county council members plan to present a proposal in July and the city has sent out a request for proposals for a study that would examine how a Vision Zero plan could operate in Indy. "

A Nashville Vision Zero 15-member task force will convene for the first time on Jan. 30. I was interested in this quote from the article:
"Everyone wants to slow down cars, and the city knows how to do it."
I sure don't think everyone wants to slow down cars in my city!
